Follow my DIY walnut shell sailboat decoration project! It makes a perfect summer decor idea.
I love walnuts, and I’m also fascinated with the uniqueness of the walnut shell. This DIY walnut shell sailboat project is to keep the walnut shell as a beautiful decoration in my home. What you need for a DIY walnut shell sailboat decoration project

felt in white or ecru color

toothpicks

walnut shell – halves

slim candle or clay

Follow my DIY walnut shell sailboat decoration tutorial
Step 1. First, put some melted wax into the halves of walnut shells. You can use a long candle. Light it up and have the melting wax drip onto the shells. When the wax is setting, put a toothpick in the middle of the shell. Let the wax get hard. Make sure the shell with the warm wax doesn’t wobble, so that the wax in the shell.
Instead of wax, you can also use clay. Put some clay into the shell, and then stick the toothpick in the middle of the shell.
Step 2. Cut the sails out of the felt. Using a pen, mark the insertion points. First, insert the toothpick at the bottom of the sail and then at the top.
You can use a tad of hot glue on top and bottom of the tootpick, right by the felt sail. It will secure the sail from shifting on the toothpick. I didn’t do that because the felt tickness and texture prevent it from sliding on the toothpick.
And that’s it! The DIY walnut shell sailboat project is quick and simple.
If you are planning to make many more walnut shell boats, I suggest using a Cricut machine to cut out the sails. I highly recommend Kim Coffin’s book “Cricut Made Easy with Sweet Red Poppy”. It’s a perfect Cricut book for beginners where you’ll learn how to use your machine with easy to follow step-by-step instructions.
You can arrange a nice summer decoration for your home with the walnut shell sailboats. Put some glass gems into a glass bowl. Arrange the walnut sailboats on the gems. Also, you can add some summer treasures you or your kids picked up from the beach. Rocks and shells are a perfect addition.
