Glass Jar Pumpkin Cover Crochet Pattern

Follow my free glass jar pumpkin cover crochet pattern and learn how to crochet a pumpkin luminary to decorate your table this Thanksgiving!

I used a red heart super saver yarn aran- warm wheat all in one granny square for the glass jar pumpkin cover crochet pattern. The reason I used that multicolored yarn to crochet the pumpkin luminary because I had a hard time crocheting a granny square using that yarn. Also, I used the granny square yarn to crochet a turkey wreath. What you need for a glass jar pumpkin cover crochet pattern

• 4 medium worsted yarn in desired color for the pumpkin body, green for the leaf, and also brown for the top of the cover (vine) – Red Heart Super Saver yarn works great

• H-size crochet hook – I love the Clover brand

• scissors

• stitch marker

• glass jar – mine is 3.5 inches in diameter

• battery-operated lights

 

Abbreviations:

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

tr – treble crochet

sl st – slip stitch

Work in continuous rounds – no slip stitching, use a place marker to keep track of where you are in a pattern.

1. make a magic ring, ch1, work 8sc into the ring (8sc)

2. 2sc in each sc (16sc)

3. (sc in next st, 2sc in next st) x8 (24sc)

4. (sc in next 2sts, 2sc in next st) x8 (32sc)

5. (sc in next 3sts, 2sc in next st) x8 (40sc)

6. sc in next 2sts, sl st in next st. (40sts) that way, the crocheted circle will get even out (this is now the beginning of the round)

7. ch3 (counts as a dc), dc in same st, ch1, sk 2, (2dc in next st, ch1, sk 2) x13, sl st in top of ch3.

8. ch3, dc in same ch1 space, ch1, (2dc in next ch1 space, ch1) x13, sl st in top of ch3

9. repeat round 9 as many times as you need to reach the top of the jar right by the neck of the jar. Sl st in the top of ch3 with brown yarn.

10. ch3 (works as a dc), dc in next dc and ch1 space (dc in next 2dc, dc in next ch1 space) x13, sl st in top of ch3

11. ch3, dc in every dc around, sl st in the top of ch3. Make the crochet cover longer, so it sticks out over the top of the jar. You can crochet one more dc round with the brown yarn. That brown yarn part in the crochet pumpkin jar cover works as a stem. Finish off.

Drawstring and leaf.

1. using green yarn, make a magic ring and ch3,

2. (2dc, ch2 picot, 2dc, ch2 picot, 2tr, ch2 picot, 2tr, ch2 picot, 2dc, ch2 picot, 2dc) all into the ring.

3. Ch3, sl st back into the ring.

4. ch60, finish off.

Now, weave in the leaf long stem in between the first row of brown yarn double crochets.
