I am happy to teach you how to crochet a fall wreath to decorate your home this autumn!
STEP 1. As I said in the beginning, I will teach you how to crochet Styrofoam wreath cover. It is super easy and you will be using half double crochet stitch = hdc
Use I 5.5mm crochet hook and the fall super saver yarn.
Make a chain long enough that will go around the thickness of the wreath.
1: Ch 21 (that’s how many stitches I chained)
2: 1hdc in the second ch from the hook, 1hdc in each next ch to end, turn (20 sts)
3: Ch1, 1hdc in the second ch from the hook, 1hdc in each next ch to end, turn (20)
4: Repeat round 3 about 120 times, and that will make the cover long enough to go around the wreath.
Now, slips stitch (ss) the last chain, instead of turning. Next, crochet the short edges of the wreath cover together and leave the tail of yarn long enough for stitching the cover around the wreath.
Thread the yarn needle on the long piece of yarn and arrange the crocheted cover around the wreath. Make sure that the rows align and then stitch the inside of the wreath.
You are done crocheting the styrofoam wreath covet and now, you have a base all ready to decorate.
STEP 2. Now, I will show you how to crochet a simple mum (chrysanthemum).
Use E 3.5mm crochet hook and the magenta lion brand yarn. (or color of your choice) Leave a long yarn tail at the beginning.
1: Make 5 ch, 1ss in 2nd ch from hook, 1ss in each next 3 ch, do not turn
2: [ch 5, 1ss in 2nd st from hook, 1ss in each next 3 sts, do not turn] repeat 8 times
3: [ch 6, 1ss in 2nd st from hook, 1ss in each next 4 sts, do not turn] repeat 9 times
4: [ch 7, 1ss in 2nd st from hook, 1ss in each next 5 sts, do not turn] repeat 9 times
Fasten off and leave a long yarn tail.
Thread a yarn needle on the beginning yarn tail. Start arranging the petals (right side toward the inside) in a spiral. Then, keep stitching the bottom of the petals together.
Use the long yarn tail to stitch across the back to hold the spiral in place.
Then, make two knots with the beginning and the end yarn tails and cut off the excess yarn.
Crochet a bunch of the mums, as much as you wish for decorating your wreath.
Wasn’t crocheting mums super easy?
STEP 3. Finally, I will lead you step-by-step through the sunflower crochet pattern. You may think that the sunflowers might be complicated to crochet, but they are really not.
Use E 3.5 crochet hook and Café Au Lait color yarn to crochet the center of the sunflower and Mint color to crochet the flowers back center.
1: Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook. Work in a spiral. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round, moving the marker up as each round is completed.
2: *2sc in each st* 6 times (12 sts)
3: *1 sc in next st, 2sc in next st* 6 times (18 sts)
4: *1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (24 sts)
5: *1 sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (30sts)
6: 1 sc around (30 sts)
7: ss in next st, fasten and cut off the yarn
Next, you need to crochet the petals, so stay focused!
So, hold both centers wrong side together aligning the stitches and the brown piece facing you. You will be crocheting through both brown and green centers aligned stitches.
Start with SS the Lemon color yarn,
*Ch 2, dc in next st, tr in same st, dtr in same st, ch2, dtr in next st, tr in same st, dc in same st, ch 2, ss in next st* 10 times
Before you will start crocheting the last petal put some (not much) fiberfill inside the sunflower.
Ss in the beg ss and cut the yarn leaving little tail. Then, make two knots with the beginning and the end yarn tails and cut off the excess.
You just got through the sunflower crochet pattern, and it wasn’t that hard as it seemed, right? Now, crochet as much as you want to decorate your fall wreath.
Use a hot glue gun to glue all the flowers onto the crocheted wreath base.
Then, cut 1 yard of the fall color yarn, fold it in half and tie it on top of the wreath. Tie the yarn again making a loop.
I hope that you found my fall wreath crochet pattern, useful and easy to follow. Please come back soon to my blog to check on other crochet projects that I post often. Also, you are welcome to share a picture of your fall wreath on my Facebook page.
Happy Crocheting!
