Beautiful summer hats are the first line of defense against scalp sunburn, sun rash, sunstroke and heat exhaustion. Summer hats are a great way to protect hair, eyes, and skin from the sun’s UV rays. And, that is why I designed this reversible newsboy hat sewing pattern.
Summer brings all those long, hot, sunny days. Kids, big and small enjoying every minute of it. Wherever they are outdoors, they are exposed to the sun. I think, that it is very important to make sure kids as well as adults, don’t get too much of the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
Stylish reversible newsboy hat for a little fashionista
I always make sure my kids wear hats. Most boys like baseball caps, so does my teenage son. They are content with a basic wardrobe, unlike my three-year-old girly girl. She already has a say, what she likes to wear and what she won’t wear. There was a time she was into her brother’s baseball cap… go figure! She sees him as her hero, whatever he has she wants it, too.
I gave it a thought, and I came out with an idea to make her a stylish newsboy hat. While I was creating the pattern, a light bulb went on over my head… Aha! I can make that hat reversible! I can make it, using two fabric prints. It will perfectly cater to my little girl’s wide range of wardrobe. Tip: DO NOT use any interfacing for the crown pieces. I made that mistake. The first time I made the hat I used interfacing on the crown pieces. The hat came out heavy, stiff and the fabric looked wrinkled.
Tip: if you choose fabrics that are on the opposite sides of the color wheel, that is fine. Thread your sewing machine with a thread that matches one fabric and wind the bobbin with a thread that matches the second fabric. Make sure the needle thread tension is correctly adjusted.
