Learn how to DIY felt apple placemats to decorate and protect your table! Just follow my step by step tutorial to make those delicious looking felt apple placemats!
Making projects out of felt is just a delight because the edges don’t fray and felt doesn’t stretch. Also, it comes in every imaginable color. If you make a bigger project you need to buy felt by the yard and I got red and cream. You can use the precut felt for the smaller pieces, and they are perfect if you use Cricut Maker machine to cut. Jennifer at jennifermaker.com has very informative posts on how to use Cricut machines and HERE is one of them to start.
For the heart in the sliced apple placemat you can use any fabric you desire or have in you home stash. I used Emma and Mila Geo in Multi quilting fabric that I bought some time ago at Walmart and the design reminds me about the seeds in the apple core.
My tutorial shows that I used materials to make red apple placemats and I made just four of them. You are welcome to use any color you wish and in any quantity. I think green apple placemats would look nice and crisp decorating your table.
What you need to DIY felt apple placemats

basic sewing tools

felt in various colors and sizes

sharp scissors if cutting by hand

quilting fabric for the hearts

lightweight interfacing

Let’s get to work!
Iron on interfacing on the back of the quilting fabric and cut out the hearts. Also, cut out the rest of the apple pieces out of the felt.
Sliced DIY felt apple placemats
Using a strait stitch on the sewing machine, stitch the heart to the cream felt piece and that makes the core and apple flesh. Next, stitch the flesh to one red felt apple piece.
Both times I ran the stitch few times to make the seam stand out.
Arrange the leaf and stem between the piece you just made and another red felt piece. Use a zig- zag stich and stitch it all around.
Basic DIY felt apple placemats
Put together two plain red felt pieces, with the leaf and stem pieces in between. Use a Zig-zag stitch to stitch around.
And Done!
