DIY Felt Mistletoe Swag Christmas Decor

Learn how to DIY felt mistletoe swag to decorate your home for Christmas! It’s a great felt décor idea and a perfect handmade gift for your loved ones!

In one of my previous posts, I’ve shown you how to make a felt mistletoe wreath as a Valentine’s Day décor. Since I had a lot of materials left over, I put together a DIY felt mistletoe swag tutorial. It makes a great handmade felt Christmas décor idea.

Crafting with felt is super easy and quick because the felt fabric doesn’t fray. It saves you time because you don’t have to worry about finishing the raw edges of the cut felt. Also, you can get felt in many fun and bright colors. In order to nicely cut all the little pieces out of felt, you’ll need sharp scissors. I highly recommend small detailed scissors that are very sharp and cut the fabric very precisely.

You can invest in a Cricut Maker machine that is perfect for cutting small pieces out of fabric and out of paper as well. It’s very handy when you make crafts in bulk and need to cut lots of pieces for your project. You will find a free SVG file of the mistletoe leaves in my resource library.

Step 1. Cut out 18 leaves out of the felt.

Step 2. First, hold two leaves together and put a dab of hot glue on the stem. Then, glue the beginning of the yarn and wrap the yarn around the stem 2-3 times tightly. Secure the yarn with a dab of glue.

Step 3. Next, place two to four leaves against the small bundle made in the previous step, and then wrap the yarn around the stems 2-3 times tightly. Afterward, secure the yarn with a dab of glue.

Step 4. Now, repeat step three until all leaves are bound. Then, wrap the yarn around the stems to the end. Next, make a loop and secure the loop with a dab of hot glue. Wrap the remaining yarn tightly around and hot glue to secure.

I think, binding the leaves in this manner makes them “fluff out” a bit, giving them a nice look.

Step 5. Finally, attach the pearl beads to the leaves using hot glue. Also, place a decoration on the base of the swag. I chose to use a wooden button in the shape of a heart. You can use a red ribbon or red heart button.
