Easy to Crochet Belt Free Pattern

Follow an easy to crochet belt free pattern that shows how to crochet a simple waist belt! I’ll teach you a single crochet stitch that is perfect in crochet accessories patterns!

I designed the easy to crochet belt pattern because I was in need of a waist belt for my denim dress. It happened that I had in my home stash a perfect yarn to crochet the belt. And, that is the COBOO yarn of the Lion Brand in beige that goes very well with denim. Also, its fibers are cotton and that makes the yarn great to crochet accessories like belts.

You need a yarn that won’t stretch much to crochet a belt and that’s why cotton yarn is perfect to do so. Also, it gives the crochet project a nice stitch definition. You need to use a crochet stitch that will make the belt not to stretch much. And, using single crochet stitch to crochet a belt works perfectly.

ABBREVIATIONS:

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

Let’s follow the easy to crochet belt free pattern!

Step 1. First, I will show you how to crochet the base for the belt.

1: Ch 9

2: sc in the second ch from the hook

3: sc in every ch, turn (8sc)

4: ch1, sc in every sc, turn (8sc)

Repeat round 4 until the desired length of the belt.

5: Now, using sc stitch finish the edge around the belt. Sc in every round of the long edges of the belt and sc in every sc of the short edges. 2sc in each of the four corners of the belt.

Step 2. Next, weave about 2” of one end of the belt into the buckle, as shown in the picture.

Then, have the prong of the buckle go through the middle of the belt. Finally, wrap the end of the belt around the bar of the buckle and stitch to the back of the belt.

Step 3. Now, you can make nicely embroidered holes along the middle of the belt. It’s not necessary to do so because you can easily push the prong of the buckle anywhere in the crocheted belt. If you however want the holes to be nicely defined, then it’s super easy to embroider them.

Pick holes along the middle of the belt that you want to embroider. Now, have the yarn needle thread with the yarn. Push the needle from the back of the belt and ¼” away from the hole. Then, work over and over stitch around the hole. Make sure the stitches are close together but not overlapping. When done, run the needle to the back and cut the yarn, leaving long yarn tail. Make a couple knots with the beginning and the end tails and cut the access yarn. Make as many holes in your belt as you desire.

Step 4. Finally, I will show you how to crochet a loop for the belt. If you don’t want the end of the belt to hang down then you’ll need a loop to keep the belt up.

1: ch 16

2: Sc in the back-middle loop of a second chain from the hook and continue to the first ch. Do not finish but cut the yarn, leaving a long tail.

3: Thread a yarn needle with the yarn tail and stitch the ends of the loop. Finish of by making couple knots with the yarn tails and cut the access yarn.

Slide the loop on the belt and done! You made yourself a nice waist belt that you can use with your garments.

If your dress doesn’t have loops for the belt then you can easily make them. You can use yarn to do so.

First, make marks on the sides of your dress where you want the loops.

Then, have a yarn needle thread with the yarn. Now, starting from the wrong side of the dress, push the needle through. And then, little more than the width of the belt, push the needle back to the wrong side. Make a few knots with the yarn tails and cut the access. Make sure the loops are nice and loose.

Agnes
