So, I had a few skeins of this beautiful fine yarn in my stash and was deciding what to crochet with it. A size 2 fine yarns as the Premier Cotton Fair are perfect for crochet lacy garments. I designed a summer top crochet pattern and the fine yarn worked nicely to get the lacy look.

In the picture, you see rows of crochet bean stitch and crochet cross-stitch.

What you need for the summer top crochet pattern

  • Premier Cotton Fair Yarn – cream- 3 (3, 4, 5, 6) skeins.

  • or sport weight yarn in the following yardage: Approximately 870 (1,050, 1,350, 1,580, 1,950) yards

  • size 7 (4.5mm) hook (or size to obtain gauge) – Clover brand is my favorite

Abbreviations:

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

sk – skip

yo – yarn over

st(s) – stitch(es)

tr – triple crochet

Sizing:

Sizes are S (M, L, XL/2XL, 3XL)

To fit bust size: 30 (36, 42, 48, 54)”

Finished bust size: 36 (39, 45, 51, 57)”

To better determine your size, look at the finished bust size. For reference, the model is 5’ 8″ with a bust of 36”, wearing a size Small. If I’ll like a loose-fitted top, size M would work better for me.

Gauge:

7 cross stitches and 8 rows (4 rows of cross stitches and 4 rows of bean stitches) in stitch pattern = 4”

Notes:

1. ch1 at beginning of rows does not count as a stitch

2. ch3 at beginning of rows does not count as a stitch

3. this top is made of 2 panels, sewn together at the sides and shoulders.

4. the pattern is written in size S, with sizes M, L, XL/2XL, and 3XL in parentheses.

1. Make an sc foundation chain of 66 (78, 90, 102, 114) sts

2. ch1, sc in same st and every st across, turn

3. ch3, tr in same st,

(sk next sc, tr in next sc, tr in skipped st, behind just made tr), repeat until 1 st left,

 tr in last st, turn

4. repeat row 3

5. ch1, sc in same st, ch1,

(sk st, bean stitch) repeat till last 2sts in a row,

sk st, sc in last st, turn

6. ch1, sc in same st, sc in ch1, ch1,

(sk st, bean stitch) repeat till last 2sts in a row,

sk st, sc in last st, turn

7. repeat rows 3-6 x10 or more to get your desire length

8. repeat row 3

9. ch1, sc in every st

Now, I’ll show you how to assemble the crochet lacy summer top:

Lay both panels out, with wrong sides together. Sew side seams and along the top, from the edge of sleeves to the neckline. Leave openings as big as you would like. Leave the neck opening bigger to have the top more off-the-shoulder.

Instead of using a yarn sewing needle, you can single crochet the pieces together. Make 3 sc in cross stitches row and sc in each bean stitch row.

Make sure to align the stitches together and crochet through the front and back loops of aligning stitches.

To finish the arm openings, single crochet the edges around first – 3 sc in cross stitch row and sc in each bean stitch row. It will make about 30 stitches on one side and that means around 60 stitches around the arm opening.

Now, chain 4 and tr in the previous stitch – you just made the first cross-stitch. Next, keep crochet cross-stitch around and ss to top of ch 4.

Weave in all yarn tails.
