Fleece Neck Warmer Gaiter Face Mask Sewing Pattern

Get my gaiter face mask sewing pattern and learn how to sew a neck and face covering to keep you warm while skiing! It’s a cozy two-layered fleece gaiter face mask!

My kids and I got into skiing this year. While preparing for the trip I had a hard time finding warm face coverings to do the job. So, I designed a fleece neck warmer gaiter face mask pattern and I sewed them myself. I think the gaiter masks came out great and they keep our faces and necks warm while skiing.

You can see in the picture that I made the masks a little longer. And the reason I did that is to also keep our chests warm. Sometimes the zipper in a jacket gets open if it’s not zipped all the way. And, that happens on my daughter’s jacket. So, the long gaiter mask keeps her chest warm.

Working with fleece fabric is super easy because it doesn’t fray. Also, fleece is perfect for warm garment accessories like gaiter masks because it has a nice stretch. And that’s why it fits tightly on your face. To have the mask nicely fit your face, the top of the mask should be about 2″ smaller than your head circumference.

You can get my fleece gaiter face mask pattern at my shop.

It includes the face mask pattern in several sizes and a tutorial with pictures.

You need to remember that the pattern sizes are only approximate, you may need to use the pattern sizes according to your head circumference.

What you need to use a fleece neck warmer gaiter face mask sewing pattern

Step 1. Cut four of the gaiter mask pieces out of the fleece fabric. Place two of them right side together and align the edges. Pin just one side edge together and stitch. Repeat with the other two mask pieces.

Step 2. Open flat the two sewn mask pieces and place them right side together. Pin top and bottom edges and stitch together using stitch for sewing knit fabrics. Using a knit stitch allows the seam to stretch out. If you’ll use a straight stitch, the seam would break while pulling the mask over your head.

Step 3. Grab and pull one open edge through the inside of the tube. That way the piece is folded right side together. Align the seams of both open edges together and pin around. Stitch using straight stitch leaving about 4” opening.

Step 4. Turn the face mask piece right side out and hand stitch closed the opening.

And there! You made yourself a nice gaiter face mask to keep your neck and face warm while skiing.

It fits perfectly under the back of the helmet and under goggles as well.
